85 Years. One Purpose.
Our story begins with our founding in 1940 as Naval Air Station San Diego Federal Credit Union to provide affordable, high-quality banking services to military and civil service personnel.
In 1966, the credit union changed its name to North Island Federal Credit Union to better reflect its broader community charter and expanded membership base serving all San Diegans, including military members, their families, civil service employees and local businesses. The name “North Island” was chosen to honor the credit union’s origins while embracing its commitment to serving the wider San Diego community.
Milestones in Our History
Over the years, North Island Credit Union grew into a true community institution, grounded in the values of service and support – and a true partner in helping members achieve their financial dreams. We take immense pride in knowing that the work we do every day makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve, from helping families buy their first homes to supporting the financial well-being of our military heroes.
The merger with California Credit Union in 2017 marked a new chapter in our journey, allowing us to expand our services while staying true to our local roots and continuing to honor our military heritage. Together, we’ve built a stronger credit union that remains dedicated to serving every member with the same care and respect that has always been at the core of our mission.
